STAT Training and Quality Improvement Cohort
The Screening Tool for Autism in Toddlers and Young Children (STAT) is a specialty screening method that can help qualified health care professionals diagnose autism in young children.
In spring 2024, ECHO Idaho will offer a second cohort of MDs, DOs, NPs and PAs the opportunity to receive their STAT certification training for free as part of a new quality improvement project. Benefits of participation include:
- Free Maintenance of Certification credit (MOC-Part IV) / AAPA Category 1 PI-CME and Continuing Medical Education credits, including nine hours for STAT training and up to two hours per month for ECHO Idaho session attendance
- Free STAT training and kit (valued at over $1,500)
- Ongoing specialist support
- Ability to evaluate and diagnose autism in children under 48 months with obvious autism spectrum disorder (ASD) symptoms

Participation Requirements and Commitments
ECHO Idaho’s STAT Training and Quality Improvement Cohort is available for Idaho MDs, DOs, NPs and PAs.
To participate in this project, participants must be able to commit to the following events and deadlines, to occur between March 2024 and April 2025:
- Attendance at live STAT Training (March 5-6, 2024). Join in-person in Boise. Travel compensation is available.
- Complete STAT certification process:
Step 1 - View course materials, and receive instructions from trainer;
Step 2 - Submit Administration Video #1, and await feedback from trainer;
Step 3 - Submit Administration Video #2, and await feedback from trainer;
Step 4 - Submit additional Administration Videos as needed/requested, and await feedback from trainer - Participation in a 1-hour kick-off meeting
- Participation in 16 of 22 live ECHO Autism sessions (April 2024-March 2025)
- Present at least one patient case at a regular ECHO Autism session between April 2024 and March 2025
- Completion of pre- and post- series surveys
- Complete the attestation form
Registration for ECHO Idaho’s STAT Training and Quality Improvement cohort is now open and will remain so until the cohort’s first meeting in March 2024 (date TBD) or until the cohort’s 20 available spots are filled.
If more than 20 participants register, registrants will be added to a waitlist in the order that they register. Non-Idaho providers may register, but will be automatically waitlisted to prioritize in-state (Idaho) providers.
1. Why is this training being offered?
Primary care physicians (PCPs) are essential to screening for and taking initial steps to manage common co-occurring conditions in the ASD population. Many pediatricians and PCPs report they are not knowledgeable about the conditions that commonly co-occur with ASD and report a lack of self-efficacy in applying standards of care to this population.
2. Can I receive the STAT Certification Training without participating in the full year-long cohort?
No. Successful completion of the requirements as stipulated in the Protocol is mandatory to receive STAT certification.
3. It sounds expensive. Is all this really free?
Yes. Thanks to a generous donation provided by Optum Idaho, ECHO Idaho is able to offer this special training at no cost to 20 interested, eligible clinicians in Idaho on a first-come first-serve basis.
4. I don't live or work in Idaho. Can I apply for this training/cohort?
Yes, but know that your registration does not guarantee your spot. Out-of-state (non-Idaho) providers will be automatically waitlisted to privilege in-state (Idaho) providers. In-person attendance at the March 2024 training in Boise, ID, will also be required.
